Food, Rice, Swaad Se Swagat

Tawa Pulao

When you’re not too sure what to have for Dinner and you need a quick fix, this dish is the best go to dish, super easy and really tasty! (my Mum suggested we order Pizza!)

The What:

For the Rice (if you’re making it from scratch if not, use left over Rice)

  • 1/2 cup Rice
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt (I used Pink Himalayan Salt)
  • 1 tbsp Oil (I used Coconut Oil)

Boiled Veggies

  • 1 Potato (cubed)
  • 1/4 cup Peas


For the Tawa Pulao

  • 1/2 cup Cooked Rice
  • 2 tbsp Oil (i used Coconut Oil)
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Onion – Finely diced
  • 1 Tomato – Finely diced
  • 1/2 Red Pepper – Finely diced
  • 1/2 tsp each Minced Garlic, Ginger & Chilli
  • 1/2 tsp Tomato Puree
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander Cumin Powder
  • 1+1/2 tsp Pau Bhaji Masala
  • Lemon Juice to taste
  • Coriander – Finely chopped

The How:

Rice (feel free to boil the Rice if it’s easier for you)

  • Wash the Rice thoroughly and soak for 15 minutes.
  • Heat a pot into add:
  • Oil
  • Drained Rice
  • Mix. Now Add:
  • Salt
  • Mix. Now Add:
  • Water
  • Mix. Let the water come to a Boil. Close the lid and let it simmer for 15 Minutes. When it’s done, open the lid and leave it uncovered to cool. Fluff up the rice.

Boiled Veggies (feel free to use any veggies of your choice, Carrots, Green Beans ect..)

  • In a out boil some water, to it add:
  • Chopped Potatoes
  • Peas
  • Cook until a fork can easily go through the Potato. Drain Veggies in cold water a couple of times, and put aside.

Tawa Pulao

  • Heat a pan and add:
  • Oil
  • Once heated add:
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Let them sizzle then add:
  • Chopped Onions
  • Cook them until translucent and soft. Then add:
  • Minced Garlic, Ginger & Chilli
  • Cook until the raw smell goes away. Then add:
  • Finely diced Red Peppers
  • Cook for a couple of minutes. Then add:
  • Finally chopped Tomatoes
  • Tomato Puree
  • Mix and cook uncovered for a couple of minutes until Tomatoes have gone slightly soft. Now add the spices:
  • Coriander & Cumin Powder
  • Red Chilli Powder
  • Turmeric
  • Salt
  • Pau Bhaji Masala
  • Lemon Juice
  • Give everything a good mix and cook for a minute.
  • TASTE TEST – Time to taste it and make sure everything is in check, you can add more or whichever spice you wish. Now add:
  • Boiled Veggies
  • Slowly give everything a mix make sure the Veggies are well coated. Cook for a minute. Now add:
  • Rice
  • Stir everything carefully let it all cook for about 2 minutes stirring after a minute in between. Now add:
  • Finely Chopped Coriander

It’s ready to Eat, Share and Enjoy.

You can enjoy this dish on it’s own with Yogurt or Pickle or whatever your heart desires
